Job description

About the Role:
The Senior Data Engineer within the Sustaining Capital team will manage the data pipeline and ETLs, from source applications to business friendly datasets. This role involves collaborating with technical SMEs to ensure adherence to architecture and security standards, and actively engaging with the Sustaining Capital team to decipher business requirements and refine ETL calculations and logic.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement connectors in Fivetran to maintain seamless data extraction and facilitate integration into Snowflake.
  • Utilise DBT (data build tool) for building and managing ETL processes within Snowflake, ensuring efficient data transformation and adherence to best practices.
  • Collaborate with technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure architecture and security standards are maintained throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Manage and maintain Snowflake databases, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability of data storage solutions.
  • Work closely with business analysts and the wider project team to understand and translate business requirements into effective ETL logic.
  • Implement and enforce best practices for data engineering, including version control, documentation, and code reviews.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines in Snowflake, addressing issues related to data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
  • Participate in regular cross-functional team meetings to provide insights and support for data-related projects.

Key Criteria:
  • Proficient in designing and implementing data pipelines.
  • Strong experience in ETL processes, particularly within data warehousing environments.
  • Familiarity with data modelling and schema design.
  • Understanding of version control systems for maintaining codebase integrity.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and monitor data pipelines, addressing issues related to data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies and frameworks for efficient data processing.
  • Effective communication skills to articulate technical concepts and constraints to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, staying abreast of industry trends and advancements in data engineering.
  • Experience using Fivetran and/or Snowflake.
  • Experience managing project controls, project management and/or financial data.
